READING in Second Grade

Our class uses The Daily Five for reading.  The Daily Five has 5 rotation, we usually have 4.  The rotations are guided reading with teacher, word work, writing, and read to someone.  At the beginning of our year we worked on our stamina.   We had to build our reading stamina.  We practiced reading for a certain amount of time without stopping or disturbing others. We also learned about the three different ways to read a book.  When the students read to someone they have to use eekk! Ask your child what eekk means.

We have also learned many reading/decoding strategies to help when we come to an unfamiliar word. I will attach strategies to this post very soon.

We also have a new reading series this year called Making Meaning.  This series adresses comprehension.  Comprehension is understanding what you read.
